Nuclear physicist and President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovakia’s largest scientific institution. He did not have much of a love for physics as a child; today, he studies why atomic nuclei take different shapes. In 2011, he proposed the IS521 experiment, which, under his leadership, became part of the CERN programme. His team also developed a specialised measurement device for the experiment.

He is a co-author of Vision Slovakia 2040. One of the issues he focuses on is rebuilding public trust in science and knowledge at a time when the academic community is facing hoaxes and disinformation.
